History and Rationale

History of Mistakes
- The Iraq war was based on a false premise "weapons of mass destruction" which was based on inaccurate intelligence.

- There were no Iraqi terrorists involved in 9/11. All of them were from Saudi Arabia who we have not chosen to invade.

- Bush made a mistake in choosing to invade Iraq. He made a series of mistakes governing Iraq after the initial military victory. End Iraq War Now.org calls on President Bush and Congress to accept the reality of these mistake, accept full responsibility, and take immediate steps to end America's involvement with Iraq.

- The conflict was to a large extent over oil resources and justified on other grounds such as the "War on Terror." While significant, these resources were not necessary for America's energy security. It would be a serious mistake to consider these resources when considering our involvement going forward.

Unrealistic Rationale for Going to War

Rationale: There are weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
Reality: There were no weapons of mass destruction.

Rationale: This is part of the war on terror.
Reality: All of the 911 bombers were from Saudi Arabia. There was no reason to invade Iraq.

Rationale: This war will bring freedom and democracy to Iraq and the Middle East.
Reality: The war has brought pain and suffering to Iraq and its neighbors.

Rationale: We need to stay the course until we "win."
Reality: We already won major combat operations a long time ago. It's not practical to turn Iraq into a friendly first world democracy. The culture gap is too large.
